New Seaside Palapa Suite at Buena Suerte Soliman!
As Casa Buena Suerte begins it’s third year on beautiful Soliman
Bay, we are thrilled to announce
the opening of our new Palapa Suite. The new suite is a pyramid
shaped palapa built by our Mayan
craftsmen with a roof of dried palm fronds. The wood used for the structure
is Chechen – a local hardwood that is so durable it is known as “ironwood.”
All of the walls are glass and all open for a fabulous sea breeze. The suite
is also equipped with instant chilled and heated water, refrigerator
and a safe for your valuables.
The concept of palapa construction developed as the Maya would farm one area
of the jungle for several years, and then move to another area. Everything
was renewable. The trees they cut for palapas would grow back over a 20-30
year period and the Maya would not go back into an area for that period of
time so the jungle could actually rejuvenate. The genius of the ancient Maya
is that they were thinking green even when resources were plentiful.
A palapa roof allows the building to “breathe” and thus stay cool
and dry in hot weather. Our new suite is green in it’s construction
and decadent in it’s ambience. After a night of stargazing, close
the floor to ceiling draperies, jump into your king-size bed, look
up at the 20 ft palapa ceiling...it’s your own private haven. Enjoy
a perfect night’s sleep and wake up to a direct view of the sea;
it feels like there’s nothing between you and the Caribbean.
